How Personal Training Influences Weight Loss
People approach me with numerous aims and objectives, but by far the most enquiries come from those wishing to lose weight. The reasons are varied but the advice and approach offered will help reach the desired results. Here we will look at how utilising the services of a personal trainer can help to transform a client, and how to keep it a long term achievement.
An initial gauge of the food being consumed is a must, and a useful tool is to keep a food diary. This will make you commit to paper what you are eating, and can also make you veer away from unhealthy options, if you know you have to commit it to paper for it to be scrutinised!
As with anything that you aim to make a long term change, then it has to be sustainable. Healthy but happy options need to be agreed upon and this could take a few hits and misses along the way. Not every recommendation will last but a winning formula can be agreed upon over time.
Whilst finding a long time plan, small changes will also be the key. These could be something as straightforward as adjusting portion sizes, the amount of times you eat a day, not digging in to seconds and calling it quits before having a dessert. Healthier but enjoyable snacks can be introduced to replace those mid morning or afternoon cravings.
Alcohol is another area that can be added into the food diary, and when written down in this way, can be a real eye opener to the amount and how often consumed. As with all things, unless it is desired, then nothing has to be off limits but controlled. Denial of favourite but calorific food and drink, will inevitably lead to misery and a swift end to any good work that has gone before.
As already mentioned, accountability is a huge factor in making and sticking to change. Checking in with either a food diary at the beginning and then verbally periodically, will help ensure the notion that you are in a sense reporting into someone other than yourself. Even though you could indeed tell a few fibs or be creative about what you have consumed, you are only lying to yourself! As a trainer, we are looking to see you achieve your desired weight and goals, through an avenue of honesty and trust.
Of course this is all easier said than done when written on paper, and by stating that calories being expended need to exceed calories being consumed! A few recommendations will fall by the way side and you will have those days when you fall off the wagon. But this is not a short term fix and so by keeping going and by adopting a new way of thinking will come over time. Changing of mindset and attitude and habits is key. We can talk through your triggers and why you may binge or over eat and when. Long term fixes are rarely easy but are definitely obtainable.
So of course you have also engaged a personal trainer to look at diet and marry it together with an exercise schedule. The right exercises for your physical level and the exertion at which to be performed will be ascertained, and a timetable constructed. Motivation and accountability are also key here. Outside of a visit from myself is the key time when it is down to the individual to do their agreed upon exercises.
Hitting your goals should be fun and hugely rewarding, and having a personal trainer can get you where you want to be safely and in a concise way. Please get in touch with myself, and we can discuss your aims and aspirations and how positive change can be achieved.
